Dodgson and Dixon Family Unit

Cathy and I are heading down to the Skipton area this coming weekend and hope to visit the cemetery where my Grandparents, Eddie DODGSON (1903-1976) and Lily Eleanor DIXON, (1905-1980) are buried.

Eddie died way back in 1976, on my Dad’s Birthday, and Lily a few years later in December 1980.

Although Eddie was born in Colne, Lancashire, his family came from Leeds, West Yorkshire. His father, Edward George DODGSON (1851-1940) , was born and lived on what is now one of the main shopping streets, Vicar Lane, before moving to Skipton around the time he married his wife, Ann Ellen TILLOTSON (1863-1937) in 1888. The family were in Colne by the time Eddie’s sister, Sarah DODGSON (1898-1958) was born.

Lily was born in Langcliffe, just North of Settle, Yorkshire, to George Gordon DIXON (1875-1957) and Mary PRESTON (1882-1929). On the 1911 Census, George was described as a Granite Quarryman.

A few of my relatives still live around that area and so we might also be able to have a catch up with one or two of them too, whilst we are so close. Will have to see how the time goes, as it’s only an overnight stay.
