This is probably my favourite photo of Eddie, it was taken by one of his Grandsons, Paul Barker and I think just sums him up completely.

Eddie was born in Tynemouth in the North East of England and was the 4th of 5 brothers.

He worked in the shipyards for most of his life, other than when he was in the services, where on 17th June 1940 he was one of the lucky survivors from the Lancastria disaster (more on that story in the future).

He was granted a very short leave (3 days) from the forces to marry Gwendoline Scott on the 27th May 1944 and they made their home in Hebburn (now part of Tyne and Wear although at the time I believe classed as Durham).

Their two daughters, Margaret Isobella and Catherine “Cathy” Ellen were born and raised there.  Margaret still lives around the corner from the family home, although Cathy moved to Newcastle, Stanley, Leeds and then to Tenerife in the Canary Islands!
